One could argue that doughnuts are meant to be a solitary pleasure, consumed silently and with great speed. But is there any chain where one is more likely to see people sitting alone staring blankly into the industrial lighting?--a Slate writer on Dunkin' Donuts

Except Mikey and I face each other when we get our vanilla chais, nodding our heads to whatever's on the radio underneath those industrial lights as we watch people hurry by on those brilliantly white, cold, New England mornings. And we smile.
And then a whole bunch of guys in suits and sunglasses wander in, and everybody freezes until they realize that it's just limo drivers waiting for the St. Paul's morning funeral to finish and not the return of the Rascal King himself. Oh Harvard Square!
