My lovely hometown
Waterbury is "where the forces of slime meet the forces of evil." --Ned Lamont's campaign manager
"Waterburians do know how to read, we know how to write, and we even know how to vote." --Waterbury mayor's chief of staff, after the city voted overwhelmingly for Sen. Joe Lieberman
[FYI: Lamont, an anti-war candidate, beat Lieberman in the senate primary largely because Lieberman is a fairly conservative Democrat who's fiercely supportive of the war and the President. Apparently it's more sensitive to describe the city as "gritty," which is the word the AP used in its reporting of the incident.]
